Local currency and QR payments.

Visiting Thailand is an exciting adventure, but making payments as a foreign traveler can be challenging. 

Obviously cash is king, but carrying around bundles of cash can be inconvenient or unsafe so here are a few tips:

  • Most of the larger chain outlets, malls, restaurants accept travel cards such as Monzo or Revoult and credit cards which is great. 
  • However if you want to explore the local street markets, street food vendors, Tuk Tuk’s and local cafes most of them don’t accept cards. 
  • Many vendors rely on local banking systems like PromptPay, which requires a Thai bank account.
